James Slaven Sr. Obituary:

Jim was born on August 16 th,1939 to Paul and Sadie Craig Slaven on Crompton Hill, Clinton,

Indiana. In the spring of 1942, he and his family moved east of Turkey Run State Park

to their 100-acre farm, where he attended the first three grades of school at Marshal

Elementary School. In the spring of 1948, they moved to the west of Mecca, Indiana,

along the Wabash River, attending Mecca school through his freshman year. In 1954

they moved to Lyford, Indiana, where he graduated from Rosedale High School in

1957.

On July 6 th. 1963, he married Patty Kyle at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, Indiana. He

and Patty had four sons: Kyle (Jill), Paul, Pete (Samantha), and James (Jacquie).

His first adult job was working at Chesty Potato Chips, in Terre Haute, Indiana. He then

moved on to Central Nitrogen, and then to Public Service Indiana, from which he retired

in 1994, as the line and operations supervisor for the Clinton district. After retirement

from Public Service, he operated the Lyford Water Works for several years, then moved to Rockville.

He was a proud member of both the Knights of Columbus at Sacred Heart, Clinton, and

the Parke County Sheriff’s Merit Board, Rockville, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife, his four sons and their spouses, eight grandchildren and

seven great-grandchildren, his sister Alice Robertson, and several nephews and

nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Verna Walton, and his

brothers Paul Jr, Wilfred, and John Slaven.

Jim passed away on August 9, 2026, at Providence Center, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods,

Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, Jim would prefer donations to Clothe a Child or your local youth

organization or animal shelter.

Cremation was chosen without services. Giovanini Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
