Memberships and Military Service: V.F.W. Runyan Pierce Post 6653 - Clinton, Indiana. He served in the Army Engineers during the last year of WWII. He was stationed in Oahu, Hawaii where he was charged with guarding Japanese prisoners. He was also the mail clerk for soldiers stationed there preparing for the planned invasion of the Japan Mainland. After the war ended he returned home to find a job as accountant for Vietti Bothers Packing Company. He then became a butcher for the Vietti Brothers where he was like family with the Vietti Brothers. After 20 years he worked at K-Mart East shortly before opening Spendal Brothers Packing. Working with his family, Brother Jerry, Mother Mary, and wife Betty. He worked the business with all of his sons helping and turned the keys over to Tim to carry on the family business. He had his place at the cutting table until his wife passed away, November 4, 2013, He spoke with her every night before going to sleep. They built a home in Hernando, Florida in 1979 and would go three times a year. He loved fishing at the pier in Redington Shores and taking the family and friends to Disney World.
