Marshall Don Garino, 87, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away at his home on April 25, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Marshall was born on August 12, 1938 in Clinton, Indiana, to Severino Garino and Edith Guglielmetti Garino. Born and raised in Clinton, Indiana, Marshall attended the local elementary school just up the street from his childhood home. Raised by devout Roman Catholic parents, Marshall attended and graduated from St. George High School in Evanston, Illinois, an all boy’s school, in 1956. Marshall earned a degree in aeronautical and electrical engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute, an all men’s college, in 1961. After graduating from college, Marshall served in the Army for six years. Marshall was honorably discharged after rising to the rank of Captain in the Corp of Engineers. After the Army, Marshall worked for Lockheed Aircraft Company in Burbank, California. While working in California, Marshall married the love of his life, Virginia Lee Garino, on June 15, 1963 at the Santa Barbara Mission. Marshall and Virginia were happily married for 59 years at the time of her passing.
Marshall was promoted and moved to Maryland to take the position as manager of the Lockheed field office at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station located in Lexington Park, Maryland. Marshall retired from Lockheed in 1992 and eventually settled in the town of La Plata, Maryland. Marshall was a devout member of St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in his town. Marshall was well respected in the church and the local community. Marshall was very generous over his lifetime. Marshall gave generously to his church, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project and many other charities.
Marshall is survived by his three sons Domenic P. Garino of Diamondhead, MS; Jeffrey L. Garino of La Plata, MD; and David A. Garino of Myrtle Beach, SC. Granddaughters Krystina M. Garino; Jessica L. Garino; and Victoria L. Garino. Grandsons Domenic P. Garino, Jr.; Josh Barton, Sr.; and Michael C. Garino. Great grandsons Liam Barton; Josh Barton, Jr.; Edison Garino; and Domenic P. Garino III. Marshall is also survived by many friends, neighbors, colleagues, and extended family. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents Severino Garino and Edith Garino; his wife’s parents Louis M. Garino and Virginia E. Garino; and grandson Steven J. Garino.
Mass of Christian burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Plata, MD on May 8, 2026 at 10:00 A.M. Marshall will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park in Terre Haute, Indiana on May 21, 2026 at 10:30 A.M. with Fr. Joby Puthussery officiating.
