Avery Dale Gose

We have lost a very special man today, He passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at 5:35 AM with his children by his side.

He was born February 19, 1927 in Shepardsville, Indiana to Claude Matthew Gose and Nora Ethel Alkire Gose.

Avery  was a W.W. II Navy veteran. He left home at 17 to join the Navy, and to his mother’s chagrin, they accepted him.  He was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi as a cook on the WAC Base from 1944 – 1946

He married the love on his life Jennie Solomon, on July 29th, 1950.  They spent 60 wonderful years together until her passing in 2010

They lost an infant son, Gale Gose in 1954.

Together they raised three children, who they loved dearly;

The were loving grandparents and were actively involved in the lives of their four grandchildren;

Michael and Cristina Marietta of Brownsburg, IN

Avery became “PopPop” in 2014 with the birth of his first great granddaughter, Jennie Marietta followed by James Marietta in 2016.  His newest great granddaughter, Olivia Gose, was born in June.  He was expecting his fourth great grandchild in October.

Avery came from a large family.  He was preceded in death by sisters; Lela Boatman, Helen Pearl Gose and Hazel Tomastic and brothers; Jim Gose and Morris (Junie) Gose.  He is survived by his baby sister, Grace Hux, brother-in-law; Bob Solomon (Marilyn), sister-in-law; Josephine Solomon and several nieces and nephews, cousins and his two dogs; Bear and Jack. 

Avery worked on the assembly line at Studebaker in South Bend.  He later moved back home to Shepardsville where he took a job as a meat cutter at Home Packing.   After surviving the explosion there in 1963, he joined the Laborers International Union of North America Local No. 204 in Terre Haute and worked as a laborer until his retirement in 1992.

He loved playing softball and was a fast-pitch pitcher well into his 40’s.   He also loved Harley Davidson motor cycles and owned several in his younger days.  

He will be remembered by his family as a wonderful dancer, great singer, fabulous pie maker, expert Euchre player and the fastest runner in the family.  

Visitation will be held at Giovanini Funeral Home in Clinton, Indiana, Monday, August 27, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.   Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 28, 2018 with visitation 2 hours prior to the service time.  Officiating; Marta Adubato.   Military graveside services will be conducted, and burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Clinton, Indiana
