Lowell Nickels was born May 27, 1936.  Lowell passed away April 20, 2023.  Born in Dana, Indiana to Walter and Emily Myers Nickels.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Kenny and sisters and brothers-in-laws; Rose and Art Favali, Barbara and Richard Nickels; and Howard Birdsong.  He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jo Ann (Shaubi) Nickels; Son, Jeff (Maria), twin sister, Loretta Birdsong; grandchildren, Jordan, and Carmen Nickels; several special nieces and nephews and his cat, Bella.

Lowell was a Veteran of the Army National Guard. He was on the startup team at Eli Lilly and Company in Clinton.  He was an Eli Lilly Senior Chemical Operator for 28 years, until his retirement.

Lowell had many friends, and hobbies.  He was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan.  One of his many highlights was when he and his son, Jeff went to the 2006 and 2011 World Series.  He enjoyed traveling with his family and his many trips to Disney World with his grandchildren.  He was a member of the IBCA (International Brick Collectors Association). He and Jo Ann enjoyed their many brick swaps all over the country.  Lowell also loved to garden, fish, woodwork and attended Indiana State University basketball games.

Most importantly, Lowell loved his family and friends.  He and Jo Ann were inseparable.  He was a quiet inspiration to all who knew him. He was a true perfectionist in every aspect of living and loving.  Lowell will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff of Union Hospital and the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care for their excellent care of Lowell.
